Herbert S. Echols, 83, of Carrollton, Ohio passed away January 11, 2012 at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville.

He was born March 24, 1928, the son of the late Albert and Eva (Smith) Echols.

Herb was a very kind, loving, and generous man. He liked to have a garden every year and loved to watch the wildlife around his home. He was always tinkering on something.

Herb was a United States Marine who served in WWII. He was a member of the Amsterdam VFW and the Scio American Legion. He retired in 1993 from the Carpenter Union Local 186.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (Milewsky) Echols in 1984; brothers, Burt, Rupert, and Jack; sisters, Mary, Dorothy, Alice, and Ruth; and a granddaughter, Tory Janel Myler in 2006.

He is survived by sons, Timmy (Terry) Elson of Amsterdam, Ohio and Daniel (Susie) Elson of Carrollton, Ohio; sisters, Grace McGaw of Myerstown, PA, Lois Phillips of Girard, Ohio; brother, Don Echols of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Rhena Ball and Ariel Carpenter of Amsterdam, Donny (Valerie) Myler of Amsterdam, Terri (Ronnie) Vanhorne of Carrollton, Stacy (Chad) Lenz of Bridgeport, Ohio; great grandchildren, Faith Vanhorne, Isaaish Johnston, Carissa, Cody, Marissa Myler, Gaven, Dylan Sandy, Layla Kain, Xavier, Kyle Lenz. He will be sadly missed by his best friend Mikey Cvengross.

There will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the Amsterdam VFW, Amsterdam, OH 43903.
