Ruth Ann Scherrer Hout of Richmond, 94, died Feb. 8, 2018, at Martha Manor in Steubenville, where she had resided nearly four years.
She was born Aug. 2, 1923, in Wheeling, a daughter of the late George and Ruth Miller Scherrer.
She was preceded in death in 1993 by her husband, Jay W. “Pidge” Hout; a brother, Navy Capt. David Scherrer; a sister, Catherine Diab; and a grandson, Matthew Hout.
Mrs. Hout was a Spanish and English teacher in the Edison Local School District, having taught 23 years at the former Jefferson Union High School before her retirement in May 1984. She was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher and member of its United Methodist Women. Her community involvement included charter membership in the Richmond Community Historical Society and the Richmond American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her three daughters, Janice (Donald “Ki”) Kiaski of Richmond; Catherine (Juan) Canada of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; and Linda (Robert) Moody of Clover, S.C.; two sons, Jay Hout of Columbus and David Hout of Wintersville; a sister, Rae Noice of Gurnee, Ill; seven grandchildren, Rachel Wilson, Rebekah Canada, Adam Kiaski, Sarah Kiaski, Judah Hout, Michael Hout and Mallory Hout; and great-grandchildren Sofia Wilson, Isabella Wilson, Olivia Stewart and Kaylin Hout.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Richmond, with a memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, at the Richmond United Methodist Church, 112 S. Sugar St., Richmond.
The family will hold a private graveside service at a later date.
