Vance Keith Sutton, 92, of Wintersville, OH, passed away October 11, 2017.

He was born December 25, 1924, a son of the late Ancel and Lima (Davis) Sutton.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his infant brother, Eugene Sutton; sister, Lila Jones; and son-in-law, Stanley Black.

Vance served his country in the anti-aircraft division of the United States Army. During WWII, he fought in the Battle of the Bulge and Battle of Remagen.

He was a former charter member of the Wintersville Community Chapel and current member of the Wintersville Nazarene Church.

Vance possessed a natural talent for music. He self-taught on the piano, guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and stand-up bass. At a later age he learned to play the banjo, which became his favorite instrument. He taught his wife Mary to play the stand-up bass and they formed a bluegrass band, Twin Hills, which toured music festivals in Eastern Ohio. At age, 87, Vance played the banjo to accompany his granddaughter Aly at Music City Roots in Nashville, TN.

He coached his 2 daughters in a woman’s softball league and also coached a men’s team in the church softball league.

Vance retired from Weirton Steel after 30 years, where he worked at the coke plant.

Vance is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Mary E. (Holtz) Sutton of Wintersville, OH; children, Sharon Black of Hopedale, OH, Micheal (Cindy) Sutton of Marietta, GA, and Rhonda (Trevor) Thompson of New Franklin, OH; sister, Nona (Don) Hancock of Asheville, NC; grandchildren, Jodi Black of Hopedale, OH, Shane Sutton of Marietta, GA, Aly (Jason) Sutton Controy of East Nashville, TN, and Kevin Thompson of New Franklin, OH.  

Friends will be received on Friday, October 13, 2017 from 6-8 PM at Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville and again on Saturday, October 14 from 12 Noon until time of funeral services at 1:00 PM with the Reverend Delbert Lash officiating.

Burial will follow at Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville with full Military Honors.
