Carl William James Sr., 77, of Amsterdam , Ohio passed away Sunday December 11, 2011 at home.

He was born September 25, 1934 , in New Alexandria, Ohio, a son of the late Carl and Florence Elizabeth (Oxley) James. In addition to his parents he is also preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Taylor.

Carl was a member of the Steubenville Scooter Patrol, the VFW # 232 Amsterdam , Ohio , and the American Legion in Wintersville , Ohio .

Carl served his country in the United States Navy Seabees from 1956 to 1960.

He is survived by his wife, Mary James; two sons, Carl W. Jr. (Cindy) James of Richmond and Fred Frank James of Indiana; two daughters, Sheryl L. (Mark) Chiappetta of Cape Coral, Florida and Florence E. James of Steubenville; four grandsons; one granddaughter; one great grandson; two great granddaughters; two sisters, Mary Lou Bunger of Vero Beach, Florida and Glady S. Taylor of Richmond ; and a brother Charles H. James of Bloomingdale.

Private arrangements have been entrusted to the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, Richmond , Ohio .
