Carl W. Shepherd, 93, of East Springfield, OH, passed away March 6, 2015
at the Laurels, Steubenville.
He was born June 12, 1921 on Bacon Ridge, Jefferson Cty, the son of the
late John Kneen Shepherd and Frances Isabelle (Montgomery) Shepherd.
Carl was retired from the Ohio Power Co. in 1986 with 40 years of service
as the area district service man. He served his country in the Army during
WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific.
Carl resided in and was an active member of the East Springfield community
all of his life. He was involved in organizing and maintaining the East
Springfield Community Center in the 1960's where roller skating, dances,
plays, pick-up basketball games and Halloween parties were an active part
of the community.
Carl was a life long member of East Springfield Christ United Methodist
Church, a founding member of the East Springfield Volunteer Fire
Department, a former member of the Amsterdam Lions Club and a current
member of the Richmond Lions Club, and the East Springfield Senior
Citizens Club and Ruritans.
Carl is survived by his wife of 66 years, Patricia (Mathes) Shepherd;
daughter, Cynthia Shepherd; son, Robert (Catherine) Shepherd;
granddaughter, Dr. Jessica (Jason) Kile; grandson, Steven Shepherd; and
great grandchildren, Reagan Kile and Avery Kile; along with many loving
nieces, nephews; brother-in-law, John Mathes; special cousins, Howard
Shepherd, Charles and Nancy Thompson; and many friends from all over the
country and Canada.
Friends will be received on Monday, March 9,2015 from 4-8 PM at the
Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Richmond and again on
Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 :00
AM with Pastor Robert Welch officiating.
Burial will follow at Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville with full
Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to
Christ United Methodist Church, PO Box 127, East Springfield, OH 43925.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of Gables,
Trinity West, Life Line Hospital, Laurel's, and Charity Hospice.
