Doris P. Smith, 84, of Richmond , OH , passed away peacefully September 3, 2015 , while surrounded by her family at Siena Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wintersville , OH .
She was born in
Steubenville
on
June 24, 1931
, to Charles and Margret Henry and was the second of four children.
Doris
graduated from
Jefferson
Union
High School
in 1950 and quickly married Harold Smith (Smitty), her high school sweetheart, on
July 8, 1950
. They have two children, Richard and Sharon, and were married for 65 years at the time of her passing.
Doris
worked as a medical secretary at the
Ohio
Valley
Hospital
before serving as a tax preparer, office manager, and educator for H&R Block.
Doris
spent over 30 years working in the tax industry.
Doris
was an active member of Unionport Chapter 360 of the Ohio Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. Her service to her community as part of the Order began in 1962 and continued for 53 years. In 1977,
Doris
rose to the position of Worthy Grand Matron of the Ohio Grand Chapter and will forever be remembered as a Past Grand Matron.
Doris
served the Lord her whole life and her lasting legacy is the faith that she passed on to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. At various times,
Doris
served as a worship leader, church council woman, and Sunday school teacher, and also wrote hymns and poems to be used in worship.
Doris
was a member of the First Baptist Church of Steubenville.
Doris
is preceded in death by her father and mother, Charles and Margret Henry; her brothers, Harry and Roy Henry; sister-in-law, Helen Ann Henry; and great granddaughter, Margaret (Maggie) Evans.
Doris
will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Harold Smith; her children, Richard (Christine) Smith and Sharon (Mark) Evans; her brother, Charles (Avis) Henry; and sister- in-laws, Barbara and Carol Henry. Doris will forever be remembered as âMimiã by her grandchildren Belinda (Joseph) Longo, Jamie (Sara) Evans, Heather (Brian) Cooper, Isaac (Megan) Evans, Krystal (Jake) DáAmico, and Sarah Culler and her great grand children, Evan and Eric Longo; Rebecka, Zachary, and Matthew Evans; Josie Barker and Jayna Cooper; and Isabella Evans.
