Obituary

Eleanor "Ellie" Elizabeth (Taylor) Painter, 83, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and loved ones on October 7, 2024. Eleanor was diagnosed with terminal metastatic cancer just two short weeks ago, but was more concerned about her children and grandchildren surviving without her than her illness. Two of her daughters, Pattie and Debbie, were both her daily and best caregivers at the end of her life, Debbie was designated "The Boss," according to Mom.

Eleanor raised 7 children that she was most proud of and many of her grandchildren. Eleanor was a Christian and longtime member of the First Church of Nazarene of Steubenville. She worked at Hills Department Store for 12 years prior to retiring. Eleanor was easy to make friends, very loving, funny, and so proud and supportive of her children and grandchildren. She loved outings, vacations, and doing anything with her family. Eleanor loved family gatherings and holidays spent together, especially Christmas, as she was so passionate about decorating inside and out, she was elated to have won the outdoor home decorating contest when she resided on State Street in Steubenville. She loved everything about the holidays including baking, cooking, and always putting out a beautiful spread for her family and she mostly loved giving gifts and was always so tickled to receive them as well. She made many friendships in her 83 years and loved her Harvard Blvd. families/friends, where she spent the last 20 years of her life, where she also inherited some neighborhood bonus grandchildren as well. She had a love for watching Western movies, The Waltons, Little House on the Prairie, WWE Wrestling, playing video games, and of course, making anyone in her presence laugh even during her hardest and last days here on Earth, only because she "loved us more."

Eleanor had a soft and loving heart for animals, ASPCA and Dr. Pol. She also donated on a monthly basis to St. Judes Research Hospital where memorial contributions can be made in Eleanor's name.

Preceding her in death are her husband, John Edwin Painter; her son, Jeffrey Painter; her grandson, John Tyler Painter; daughter-in-law, Renee Painter; her mother and father, James and MaryAnn (Smith) Taylor; her brothers, William and Robert "Bob" Taylor; her sisters, Mildred, Mary Lou, Norma, and Violet Jean; and her beloved cat, Bootsie.

She is survived by her children, Pattie Painter, Penny (Rick) Butler, Paula Francis, Debbie (Tim) Nestor, John W. (Terri) and David Painter; 20 grandchildren, John Michael (Natalie Walker) Painter, Christina (Michael) DiCarlo, Nicole Reed, Frankie Francis, Matthew (Nellie), Chad, and Grant (Danielle) Butler, Amanda (Robbie) Yoho, Jessica, Gregory (Melissa), Jeffrey, and Chad Painter, Gregory (Jenna) Ault, Natasha (Tommy) Kerce, Emmett Francis, Tristan and Duran Painter, Casey (Bubba) and Megan Nestor; 39 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandbabies; her companion cat, Buddy; her brothers, James (Linda) Taylor, Donald (Debbie) Taylor and Clarance Taylor; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

As per Eleanor's request, there will be no visitation or services held. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
