IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Frederick Eugene
Mynster
June 28, 1932 – November 10, 2024
It is with great sadness that Frederick Eugene Mynster, 92, of Richmond, Ohio passed away on November 10, 2024. He was born on 28 June 1932 in Omaha Nebraska to the late Masden and Agnus (McNelly Mynster. In addition to his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his loving wife Joan, and his siblings Paterick (Tex) and James (Jimmy) Mynster.
During Fred's early childhood, the Mynster family moved from Omaha, Nebraska to Toronto, Ohio. Fred attended Lincoln Elementary and Toronto High School. Fred enjoyed working with his hands and engineering. In 1950, Fred graduated from Toronto High School and then decided to join the Navy and become a Machinist Mate. During his time in the Navy, he had the honor of being stationed onboard the USS Forest Sherman (DD-931), USS Goodrich (DD-831), and the USS Fiske (DDR-842). He was also stationed at the U.S. Navy Service School command in Bainbridge Maryland. Needless to say, Fred thoroughly loved serving in the Navy and experiencing adventures on the high seas and foreign lands. Fred retired from the Navy in 1971 as a Master Chief Machinist Mate. His quest for adventures didn't end there! In the late 1970's, Fred signed up with SAWTEC International to rebuild old U.S. destroyers for the Iranian government until the regime was overthrown in 1979. He was one of the last Americans to escape out of Iran. At that point in his life, he decided to take a job closer to home. He then worked in the maintenance department of St. John's Hospital and eventually became the head of the department after it became Trinity Hospital. He retired after 17 years of dedicated service to the hospital.
In 1957, Fred met the love of his life Joan McElroy in Boston Massachusetts. For 67 years they built a life they loved and raised seven children (John, Fred, Delhi, Faith, Donna, Kathleen, and Mary). He was a stern but loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
He is survived by his sons John (Mayra) Mynster and Frederick E. Mynster Jr.; his daughters, Delhi (Mark) Kerney, Faith (Robert) McCartney, Donna (Brian Skipworth), Kathleen (Orlando) Coronado, and Mary Spencer; his sibling, Mary Risler; and he also leaves the legacy of 24 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received at Everhart-Bove Funeral Home 685 Canton Rd. Winterville, Ohio on Thursday November 14, 2024, from 9 A.M until the commencement of the service at 11 A.M with Pastor Bill Westling officiating. A burial will follow at Toronto Union Cemetery with military honors.
