Obituary

GAIL H. ASH, 80, of Bergholz, OH, passed away Wednesday, October 18, 2006 in Blossom Nursing Center, Salem, OH where he had been recuperating from recent illness. He taught for 27 years in the Springfield facility of Edison School District and until recently had been a painter and directed the summer paint crew for the district. He was a tireless contributor of time and talent to worthwhile organizations. He was a dedicated member of the Bergholz Ruritan Club serving in many offices and as president for numerous terms. He is currently the Zone 8 governor for the Ohio district and was a longtime voting delegate at the national conventions. He was active with Ruritan National with headquarters in Dublin, Virginia having served as Ohio District Ruritan National Foundation chair, twice winning fund raising awards for the district. He was an early supporter and board officer of the Brass Ambulance Emergency Medical District and a supporter of community projects in and around Bergholz. For years, he was the announcer at the Springfield and Edison High School Athletic events. For over 35 years, he announced for the Pioneer 4-H Club and the Carroll County 4-H Club horse programs and recently could be heard announcing for the Steubenville Saddle Club program. He was a member of the Steubenville Audubon Society, the Trinity United Presbyterian Church of Bergholz and was a veteran of the US Navy; the Edison Local Education Association, the Eastern Ohio Teachers Association and the Ohio and National Education Associations and the Northern Ohio Harness Racing Association. He was born in Amsterdam, OH December 8, 1925. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Edna Ash, his wife, Eleanor (Banks) Ash whom he married August 27, 1948 and who died May 13, 1981 and by three children on January 29, 1964: Richard, Dianna and Deborah Ash. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Dallas) Glover of Kensington and Rachel (Joseph) Lukacena of Cadiz, a son, Russell Ash of Bergholz and 5 grandchildren: Cody and Lacey Glover, Mark and Jessica Kuryn and Morgan Lukacena. Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 285 Second St., Bergholz from 7-9 PM Thursday and on Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. Funeral services for Gail will be at 1 PM on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Second St., Bergholz. There will be one hour of visitation at the church from Noon until time of services at 1 PM. Pastor Alan Jeffries will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Steubenville at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bergholz Ruritan Club, Bergholz, OH 43908.
