Gary W. Tennant, 73, of East Springfield, OH, passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family following a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born March 24, 1943 in Salem, OH, a son of the late Ward and Violet (Cross) Tennant.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Mark Tennant who passed away in 1984 and brother, Jimmy Lee Tennant, who passed away in 2002.
Gary was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church of East Springfield where he was an active member and trustee.
He owned and operated Gary's Barber Shop in East Springfield for 50 years and was a trustee and active member of the East Springfield Community Center.
In 2015, Gary was elected as one of the Community Stars.
Gary was a member of Unionport F&AM 333. He was former chief and president with East Springfield Fire Department for 30 years and former EMT with East Springfield Ambulance.
He is survived by his wife Nicki (Haught) Tennant; daughter, Melinda Jo (Jason) Hassan of Bethesda, OH; step daughters, Bethanne (Charles) Threatt and Peggy Blancato; step sons, Randy (Traci), Douglas (Janet), Kevin (Nancy), and Brian Jackson; sister, Carole Sue (Brad Wine) Call; 15 grandchildren; and 9 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Richmond where funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11 AM with Pastor Robert Welch officiating.
Masonic services will be held Monday at 7:30 PM.
He will be interred in the East Springfield Cemetery at a later date.
His family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to be made to the Christ United Methodist Church, POBox 127, East Springfield, OH 43925.
