H. Lee Kinney 85, of Wintersville, Oh, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on January 15, 2026, at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, Pa. He was born August 11, 1940 in Florence, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Harold W. and Mildred C. (McNinch) Kinney.
Lee graduated from Jefferson Union High School in 1958 and attended Kent State University in 1959. Lee proudly served his country from 1963-1965 in the United States Army as a Chaplain's assistant. While stationed in Pyeongtaek, South Korea, he met an orphan named Chung while assisting the Chaplain at the orphanage. He wrote letters home to his parents about the orphan that he had become friends with and they eventually adopted him into the family and gave him the name James Chung. When Lee returned from the army he went to work at Union Bank in 1985. He helped launch a new bank in Steubenville which was known as Unibank. Lee was the Chairman and CEO. He worked through several mergers and changing bank names over the years until he retired.
Lee was a pillar in the community. He was involved as a trustee in "The Charles M. and Thelma M. Pugliese Charitable Foundation" and also involved in the "Albaugh and Wherry Charitable Foundation." He was a member of the Richmond American Legion #0740, Richmond Historical Society and the Christian Science Reading room. He was also a Christian Science Practitioner.
Lee enjoyed having coffee with his friends at Yorgo's and loved enjoying his meals at Bob Evans. He had many friends from all over the world.
Lee was preceded in death by his nephew Richard Adams and his sisters, Glenda Kelly and Carole Kinney. He is survived by his good friend, James Higgins of Wintersville, Oh, Brother: James Chung (Cheryl) Kinney of Richmond, Oh, Sisters: Sharon Reynolds (Fiance Mark) of Snellville, Ga, and Janeen Kinney of New Smyrna Beach, Fl, Nine Nieces and Nephews: Trina Thweatt (James) of Yuma, Az, Harold Lee (Kathy) Adams of Richmond, Oh, John Kemmer, Dawn (Aaron) Hubler both of Snellville, Ga, Adam (Emily) Kuruc of Dacula, Ga, Angela Berdine of Mingo Junction, Oh, Steve Reynolds of Snellville, Ga, Jason Kinney of Richmond, Oh, and Kristol (Ryan) Hemshrodt of Kenton, Oh. Eleven great great nieces and nephews.
Thankful for all of the nurses and team doctors at UPMC Presbyterian for their compassion and care for him during his stay.
Friends will be received at the Everhart Bove Funeral home 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville, Oh on Monday, January 19, 2026 from 2-4 and 6-8pm. Additional visitation on Tuesday from 11am until time of the funeral services at 12 noon with Reverend Bill Hibbs officiating. Military burial will follow at Richmond Presbyterian cemetery.
