HENRY W. CARTER, SR., 86, of Bergholz, OH, passed away Thursday July 23, 2009 in Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Mason County, WV, March 16, 1923.
He retired in 1979 as a battery foreman at the coke plant for National Steel and was a life long farmer. He was a member of the Jenkins Lodge F & AM # 471, Irondale, a member of the National Steel 25 year club, a member of the East Springfield Senior Citizens Club and a Methodist by faith.
He is preceded in death by this father and step-father, Ethrim Carter and John Melton, by his mother, Oma Dewberry Carter Melton, by his first wife, Leanore (Dunn) Carter, by 2 sons, Henry Carter, Jr. and Richard Carter, a brother, Herman and a sister, Margaret Liggett.
He is survived by his wife, Alice (DeVault) Carter, 3 sons, Kenneth (Susan) Carter, Richmond, Ralph (Cheri) Carter and Jerry Carter, both of Toronto, 3 daughters, Lois (Dave) Hope, Richmond, Joyce (Jim) Burkey, Wintersville, Kathleen (Jim) Robinson, Irondale, 2 daughters-in-law, Cheryle Carter, Steubenville and Opal Hoover, Wintersville, 2 brothers, Kenneth (Mazy) Carter, Hartford, WV and Carson Carter, Lancaster, OH; a step-son, Charles (Valerie) Chastain, Richmond, 2 step-daughters, Mary Jean Jackson and Kathryn (Ken) Lindsey, both of Pismo Beach, CA; 18 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 8 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 West Main St., Richmond on Sunday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday with the Reverend Tom Snodgrass officiating then preceding to Ft. Steuben Burial Estates.
