JAMES E. ALVEY, 84, of Wintersville, OH, passed away Friday, June 21, 2013 in Lifeline Hospital, Wintersville following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 25, 1929 in Wheeling, WV, a son of the late Paul W. And Mary Helen Doak Alvey.  He is also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Alvey.

Jim retired in 1991 as a truck driver for Stravaggi Industries and was a member and former shop steward of Teamsters Local # 92. He was a veteran of the US Air Force and a member of the Colliers Christian Church.

On June 24, 1947, he married the former Kathryn Spear at Holiday's Cove in Weirton.  They had one son, James E. Alvey, Jr. who, with his wife, Carol, lives in Richmond.  Also surviving are grandchildren, Michelle (Richard) Purks of Richmond and Scott (Jody) Alvey of Pleasant Hill, great-grandchildren, Julia Purks and Joshua, Jacob and Katie Alvey and a twin sister, Jean (Merrell) Yocum of Richmond.

Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 and again on Monday from 10 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM Monday.  Pastor Steve Bell will officiate and burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Weirton.
