James H. Baker, 85, of Bergholz, OH, passed away March 14, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 26, 1931 in Bergholz, OH, a son of the late Herschel and Bernice (Beckley) Baker.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his brothers, Harvey and William Baker; sister, Mary Ann (Grimes) Hamilton; 2 great granddaughters, and great great grandson.
James was a member of the Chestnut Ridge United Methodist Church Bergholz, OH.
He enjoyed coon and fox hunting. James loved his beagles and hounds. He was a coach for the hot stove baseball league and loved cheering for his grandchildren.
He worked for Jenise Coal Company and after 32 years retired from Consolidation Coal Company.
James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nina C. (Grimes) Baker; children, John Baker of Bergholz Patty Ann Baker of Steubenville, Margaret (Terry) Nighman of Bergholz, Diane (Mark) Chestnut of Hanoverton, and Rhonda (Glenn Martin) Walker of Salem; and Laura Stewart Matics who he loved like his own; grandchildren, Lynn, Johnny, Scott, Craig, Tommy, Mark, Amy, Jimmy, TJ, Angie, Gage, Isaiah, Jessica, Eric, Bryce, and Carter; and 15 great-great grandchildren.
Friends will be received on Wednesday, March 15, 2017 from 4-7 PM at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 285 Second St., Bergholz where funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 16 at 11:00 AM with nephew Pastor Bill Grimes and Pastor Lee Iden officiating.
