Obituary

John Alan Baker, 74, of Amsterdam, OH, passed away May 9, 2026 at his home surrounded by his family.

He began his career working as a foreman for Jensie Coal Mine and later retired from Rosebud Mining Company.

He was born June 11, 1951 in Canton, OH, son of the late James and Nina (Grimes) Baker.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his children, Lynn and Johnny Baker; grandchild, Mercedes; and great grandchild, Xavier.

He was a faithful member of the Heavens Edge Apostolic Church in Carrollton, a former member of the Moose and VFW, and dearly loved Ohio State Buckeyes football.

John is survived by his wife, Colleen (Elliott) Baker, children: Craig (Kim) Brummel; Scott Brummel; Tommy Baker, Mark Blancato, Amy Baker, Jimmy Baker; siblings, Margie (Terry) Nighman, Diane (Mark) Chestnut, and Rhonda (Glenn Martin) Walker; grandchildren, Jonathan Stewart, Payge Baker, Kaitlyn (Luke) Sommer, Bryce (Janae) Brummel, Hailey Williams, Jacob Baker, Briley Blancato, Addison Blancato, Ena Miller, Avery Baker, and Abel Baker; 11 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 285 Second St., Bergholz, OH on Friday from 2:00 PM until time of funeral services at 5:00 PM with Pastor William Grimes officiating.
