JOHN C. BINKIEWICZ, 62, of Wintersville, OH, passed away Monday, November 21, 2005 in Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville, following a brief battle with cancer. He retired from Weirton Steel in 1997 with 31 years as a construction rigger. Since his retirement, he was employed by Bates Amusement, Wintersville. He graduated in 1960 from the former Wintersville High School and was a US Navy Veteran stationed on the USS Constellation. He was deployed during the Gulf of Tonkin incident.
He was a former Wintersville Little League Baseball coach, a member of the local FOPA, a member of the Ohio Valley Polka Association. John was an avid polka music follower and dancer. He enjoyed listening to his brother Bill's band, the Polka Barons, and later his own sons' band. He was also a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Wintersville.
John was born in Steubenville, OH February 15, 1943, a son of the late William and Elizabeth (Petrosky) Binkiewicz. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Routzon) whom he married June 24, 1967. John was a devoted father who was always there for his four sons: John Jr.(Teri) of Pickerington, OH, Dr. Joseph (Annie) of Cambridge, OH, Jeffrey (Tricia) of Amsterdam, OH and Scott (Tricia) of Concord, OH. He was "Pop Pop" to 9 grandchildren: Justin, 11, Jayna, 9, Anna, 6, Matthew, 1, Kyle, 10, Haden, 3, Tessa, 1, Allie, 4, and Molly, 2. He is survived by one brother, William (Rosalie) Binkiewicz of Dillonvale, and five sisters: Elizabeth (Mike) Pipo, Steubenville, Marian Harris, California, Theresa Lash, East Springfield, Susan (Butch) Whitehead, Florida and Nancy (Butch) Shrieve, Unionport.
Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 West Main St., Richmond on Wednesday from 3 PM until 9 PM and again on Thursday from 9 AM until time of services at 10 AM at the funeral home with Msgr. Gerald Calovini officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Union Cemetery.
