John "Geoff" Buchanan, 56 of Amsterdam, OH passed away Monday, February 05, 2007 at Valley Hospice Palliative Care Unit, Steubenville. Geoff was owner/ operator of the Amsterdam Chrysler Garage from 1979-84, an employee of Lowe's from 1998-2003, and Advance Auto Parts from 2003- 2006. He also served as a police officer and chief in both Amsterdam and Bergholz between the years of 1988 and 1998. Geoff had many interests including aviation and military history especially WWII, his beloved flight simulator, archeology, anthropology, astronomy, genealogy, linguistics, shooting and hunting. Geoff had a vast knowledge of local area history. Geoff was born August 5, 1950 in Canton, Ohio, a son of the late Charles Keith and Marjorie Hendrix Buchanan. Geoff is survived by his best friend and life companion Verna "Cookie" Sisco of Amsterdam. Cousins, Mary (Paul) Bright and Glen "Sonny"(Rita) Dye of Amsterdam, Allen Hendrix of Canton, Evelyn Nearhood of New York, Louise (Ned) Taggert of Navarre, OH, Gary Hendrix of Medina, OH. Lifelong friends John Rucki of Vermillion, OH Paul Gregor of Xenia, OH, Mike ( Carol) Morgan, Tom (Kathy) Alloway, and John (Karen) Niemiec of Amsterdam, Bill (Alfreida) Kirkland of Steubenville, David (Karen) Allen of Florida, and Don ( Donna) Call of Carrollton. Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 West Main St., Richmond on Thursday from 6-9 PM. Services will be 10AM Friday at the funeral home with the Reverend James Stafford officiating.
