John Edward Pethtel, 71, of Richmond, OH passed away April 22, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville following a brief illness.

He was born November 13, 1942 in Hanlin Station , PA, a son of the late Calvin A. and Rose Marie (Casagranda) Pethtel.

John is survived by his wife of 42 years, Odessa (Wade) Pethtel of Richmond; sons, James J. (Stephanie) Pethtel of Pickerington, OH and Ross W. (Kellie) Pethtel of Richmond, OH; step son, Mark A. Randalson of Monroe, NC; step daughter, Kim L. (Jim) Blackburn of Richmond, OH; brother, Calvin (Tyra) Pethtel, Jr. of Richmond, OH; sisters, Marie (Walter) Mader of Richmond, OH and Rosemary (Jeff) Brenenstall of Richmond, OH; and grandchildren, Alexander Pethtel, Taylor Pethtel, and Zach Randalson.

He was a member of the Mt. Zion Methodist Church and the Farm Bureau. John loved farming, hunting, fishing, and helping others.

Friends will be received at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Richmond on Thursday from 6-8 PM and on Friday from 10:30 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM with the Reverend Mark Thomas officiating.

Burial will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery, Irondale.
