John Paul Slater, 78, passed away on December 3, 2022. He was born on April 28, 1944, in Wheeling, West Virginia, to the late William and Ethel Slater. In addition to his parents, John is preceded in death by his son, Andy Paul Slater; his brother, Lee Slater; and his sister, Judy Huff.

He was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church in Richmond, Ohio. John was retired from driving trucks for over 50 years which gave him time to never miss a sporting or musical event of his grandchildren or great grandchildren. He was proud of his old mustang car and loved to show it off at car shows. He loved being outside where he would perfect his grass cutting and work on wood projects in his garage. He spent most of the time with his loving wife Judy playing cards up in their pavilion. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Judy (Sutton) Slater; his daughters, Cindy (Michael) Matuska, Teresa (Santiago) Roig, and Jamie (James) Phillips; his brother, Jerry (Lois) Slater; his sister, Sandra Winner; his brother-in-laws, Walt (Cheryl) Sutton and Don Huff; his sister-in-laws,  Carolyn (George) Milhoan, Mildred (Bob) Hyndman, and Joann Slater; his grandchildren, Kaela (Drew) VanFossen, Justin Paul (Lexi) Rudy, Alyssa (Kira) Roig, Christina (Andrew) Roig, Jessica Roig, Santiago Anthony (Melissa) Roig, Gracie Phillips, Emily Phillips, and Katie Phillips; and his great grandchildren, Brynlee and Emlynn VanFossen.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made the Teramana Cancer Center or The Red Cross.

Friends will be received for visitation at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville, OH, on Thursday, December 8, 2022, from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. On Friday, December 9, 2022, there will be a visitation hour from 10 A.M. to 11 A.M. A service will be held at 11 A.M. with Rev. Jason Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
