Louis Gilbert Leonhart, 83, of Annapolis, died Wednesday February 12, 2014 at 2:30 PM at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born September 20, 1930 on Summit Ave. on Pleasant Heights the only son of the late Mary Martha (Starr) Leonhart and Louis Keith Leonhart.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his sisters, Esther Pahl, Lois Gorman, and Joann Dishon.
Louis is survived by his wife, Flora June (Kerr) Leonhart of Annapolis; children, Louis Keith (Kathy) Leonhart of Richmond, John Allen (Debbie) Leonhart of Hebron, Kentucky, and Carol Ann Leonhart of Fort Thomas, Kentucky; 5 grandchildren, Melanie (Mike) Main, Louis Gerald, Jennifer (Randy) Scrivner, John Thomas Leonhart, and Sara May Leonhart; 2 great grandchildren, Michael Main and Emily Main; and sister, Eileen Tallman of Hopedale.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, East Springfield. Past Master of Annapolis Grange and Jefferson County Pomona Grange. Louis was also a member of Unionport Lodge 333, Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville, Aladdin Temple Columbus, OH, Past Watchman of Shepherds of Amelia Shrine Steubenville, OH, and a member of Bethany Shrine.
Louis was a hard worker. He worked in Weirton Steel in the tin mill. He served and was honorably discharged from the Navy Reserves after 6 years. Louis has been flying as a private pilot since 1946, earning his wings at the tender age of 16. He ran a herd of holstein, milk cows, and 100 beef cattle. He drove a coal truck for Teramana Trucking for 5 years, worked as a dispatcher, and later a terminal manager, and retired with 20 years teamster pension. He also drove a school bus for the School of Bright Promise.
Friends will be received at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville on Saturday from 11 AM until time of funeral services at 12 Noon with Pastor Robert Welch officiating.
Burial will follow at East Springfield Cemetery.
