Marlene Kathryn Bower 69, went home to the Lord on June 21, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. A daughter of the late Ronald and Bessie (Mercer) Thompson, she was born on May 28, 1955 in Weirton, WV.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Tim Bower; sister, Barbara Martinez; brother Ronald Thompson, Jr.

Marlene is survived by her children, Bethany (Bernie) Smith and Timothy "T.J." Bower; brothers, Tim (Angie) Thompson and Mark Thompson; sister-in-law, Tina Thompson; brother-in-law, Tom (Peg) Bower; grandchildren, Kayla Bower, Haylee Booher, Kaden Smith and Aubrey Bower; several nieces and nephews.

Growing up in Colliers, WV Marlene spent her time playing in the woods with her five siblings and helping Mom create delicious meals in the kitchen. Being the oldest of five children she was a natural leader and was protective over her brothers and sisters, especially little brother, Ron. that quality of nurturing others led her to choose nursing as a career. Marlene earned her nursing degree and worked as an RN at Dixon Health Care and then at Heritage Complete Home Care where she served as Director of Nursing. Both co-workers and patients often described Marlene as caring, knowledgeable and empathetic. She had the ability to calm those around her and took pride in helping others.

In her free time as an avid reader and music lover it was not uncommon to see Marlene with a book in her hand while Janis Joplin and Rod Stewart echoed in the background. She loved the peace the ocean provided. She traveled with her family to Nags Head, NC as often as possible. Her family will always hold those memories close to their hearts. Although she will be deeply missed her memory and influence will live on through all that knew her. A memorial service to honor Marlene will be held at a later date.
