Mary Margaret McGeehan, 89, of Steubenville, Ohio (formerly of Richmond, Ohio) passed away April 23, 2012, at Lancia's Villa Royale Nursing Home, Steubenville, where she resided for the past eight months.
Mary was born November 20, 1922 in Steubenville, Ohio, daughter of the late Ernest and Edna Peter.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, James D. McGeehan; her two sons, Patrick D. McGeehan and J. Peter McGeehan; a brother, Theodore Peter; a sister, Von Stuckemeyer; and infant granddaughter, Christina Holmes.
Mary was a graduate of Steubenville High School in 1940, and also the Ohio Valley School of Nursing in 1944.
Mary worked as a nurse at Ohio Valley Hospital until her marriage in November of 1944, at which time she became a full-time homemaker and mother. Mary was an Air Force Spouse for 21 years. When her husband Jim retired, the family moved back to the Ohio Valley.
She enjoyed painting, ceramics, and other crafts. She was a great lover of animals, especially dogs, of which she owned several. She was also a collector of dolls and Hummel figurines.
She enjoyed family outings, especially dining out and going to the movies. She was an avid Steelers and Penguins fan.
Mary was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church for the past four years, and before that, of St. John Fisher in Richmond, Ohio for 43 years, where she was involved in many functions, particularly the Catholic Women's Club. She was a faithful lay oblate of the Benedictine Order.
Mary is survived by her daughter Von (John) Holmes of Steubenville; four grandsons, Adam Schneider of Chicago, Illinois; Greg, Scott, and Luke Holmes of
Steubenville; and brother-in-law Lester Stuckemeyer of Wintersville.
Friends will be received at Holy Family Catholic Church Thursday, April 26, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. Funeral Liturgy with mass will follow there at noon.
Private interment at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lancia Villa Royale Nursing Home, care of Activities Director.
