MARY JANE PAYNE, 85, of Bergholz, OH, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2007 in Trinity Medical Center West, Steubenville following a brief illness. She was a homemaker and mother to everyone she met. She was a member of the Bergholz Church of Christ.
She was born in Sugar Creek, Athens County, OH, May 4, 1921, a daughter of the late Herbert C. and Rosa I. (Boyle) Turvey. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Payne, Sr. who died August 13, 1984 and whom she married March 2, 1940; one son, Franklin Louis (1949), a son-in-law, Gilbert Rowan, Feb. 18, 2007, by three brothers, Edgar, 1997, John, 1993 and Herbert Turvey, 1956, 3 sisters, Louie May Payne, 1980, Edna A. Johnson, 1987, and Martha Bettis, 1998.
She is survived by 3 sons, Joseph (Janet) Payne, Jr., Toronto, Louie (Melanie) Payne, Amsterdam and Robert (Debbie) Payne, Bergholz; by 4 daughters, Irene Rowan, Bergholz, Lova Jean Westlake and Rosa Stone, both of Toronto, and Helen (Jim) Wilkin, Amsterdam, by 19 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; a sister, Helen Dillon, Bergholz and many nieces and nephews whom she truly loved.
Friends may call at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 285 Second St., Bergholz from 2-4 and 7-9 PM Tuesday with funeral services there Wednesday at 1 PM with the Reverend Dave Miller officiating.
