Julia Maxine Williamson, 86, of East Springfield, OH, passed away on January 7, 2015 at Valley Hospice Care Center North, Steubenville.
She was born February 23, 1928 in Fernwood, OH, a daughter of the late Maxie and Estella (Pool) Woods.
In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her brothers, Lloyd, Leo "Chub", Robert "Spike" and infant, Roy Woods.
Maxine married May 30, 1952 to Edwin Lee Williamson of East Springfield, OH at Wintersville, U.M. Church. She graduated 1945 from Wintersville High School. Maxine moved to Cleveland in 1950 for a few short years before returning home.
She taught Sunday School and directed Bible School at several churches for 59 years the most notable being the U.M. Church of the Cross in East Springfield. Maxine directed Jr. and Sr. choirs beginning at Green Lawn Church when she was 12 yrs. old.
As well as being involved in many church organizations she gave her time, talent, and treasures at Camp Aldersgate where she was Dean for many years.
She got involved in the East Springfield Extension Homemakers in 1954 and through that became involved on the county, state, and international level of Associated Country Women of the World. It brought opportunity to travel to Oslow, Norway, a 17 day trip she wanted to have her husband take with her, so she sought work to save money to make it happen.
They were known as Uncle Ed and Aunt Max to many people including Pastors, friends, nieces, and nephews. Maxine had no children, but her niece, Lorie (Woods) Tawney lived with them from 1970 to 1987.
In addition to her husband, Edwin Williamson, she is survived by her sister, Alma (Glenn) Parsons of Canton, OH; sister-in-law, Betty Woods of Wintersville, OH, Karen Beebe of Richmond, OH who has worked for her for 39 years and still does; caregivers, Jim and Roxie Williamson, Bob and Darlene Williamson, and dear friends, Jim and Margie Gray, and many, many nieces and nephews.
Maxine owned J.M. Williamson Income Tax and Bookkeeping for 39 years and closed the tax part on May 31, 2014.
Maxine's motto: "If you want more, give more. Real Joy! Jesus first, others second, yourself last."
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, January 11, 2015 from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the East Springfield United Methodist Church of the Cross and again on Monday from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11:00 AM with Pastor Tom Snodgrass officiating.
Burial will follow at Ft. Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the East Springfield United Methodist Church of the Cross food pantry, PO Box 6, East Springfield, OH 43925.
