Vickie L. (Goodrich) Shaffer, 60, of Toronto, Ohio passed away Thursday, September 17, 2015 after a long battle with breast cancer. Vickie fought that battle with grace and courage.

She was born September 2, 1955. She was the daughter of the late Charles "Bud" and Carol (Rothacker) Goodrich of Richmond, Ohio.

Vickie graduated from Jefferson Union High School in 1973. She went on to graduate from Clark-Gilbert and Silverthorn Cosmetology School and was a stylist for 13 years. Vickie then made a career change and graduated from Kent State University with a degree in elementary education. She pursued her Master's Degree in reading and literacy from Walden University. She has been a teacher in the Edison Local School District for 26 years. Vickie taught preschool, kindergarten, and first grade. She has touched hundreds of children's lives. There were many traditions that Vickie made sure were done in her classroom. At Christmas, she made sure that her first graders made and decorated gingerbread cookies and she was usually dressed up as anything from "Elvis" to "Mrs. Wishy-Washy" for Halloween.

Vickie was an avid reader and she instilled that same love of reading in her students. She loved traveling. A few years ago, she and her son, Sam, took a trip across Route 66. She took her new Mustang and off they went traveling and making memories.

Vickie leaves behind her loving husband, Jim Shaffer, who she married in July of 1976. They recently celebrated their 39 th wedding anniversary. She also leaves behind her son, Sam Shaffer of Toronto, Ohio; sister, Missy Boyd of Wheeling, WV; and brother, Shawn Goodrich of Richmond, Ohio.

Vickie was a wife, mother, sister, and friend. If you met Vickie, you would love her. She loved life and had a wonderful positive outlook. Even throughout her battles with cancer, she would not complain. She was an inspiration to anyone who knew her. She will be sorely missed by family and friends.

As per Vickie's wish there will be no visitation or services.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Teramana Cancer Center, Steubenville, OH or Stanton Elementary School, Hammondsville, OH.
