Virginia Channels, 92, went home to be with her Lord on December 21, 2014.
She was born May 23, 1922, the daughter of the late Ralph and Marie Mallernee. She lived most of her early years with her grandparents, the late Joseph and Ina Flenniken.
Virginia graduated from Amsterdam High School in 1940 with honors. She was a devoted Christian and a teacher of God's Word for many years. She worked mostly with the youth of the former Evangelical United Brethren Church of the Cross organizing the present youth fellowship. Virginia also held several offices in the Church in her younger years. She was also a member and leader in the W.C.J.U. for 57 years.
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Edward Louis Channels whom she married February 22, 1941; and son-in-law, Richard "Dick" Burch.
She is survived by her daughter, Edwinna Burch of Richmond, OH; son, Dual (Janice) Channels of Uniontown, OH; five grandchildren, Dianne Paice of Richmond, OH, Sharon (Bob) Krusey of Mercer, PA, Janet Mayle of Richmond, OH, Christopher (Jennifer) Channels of Zanesville, OH, and Elizabeth (William) Hopkins of Springfield Township OH; 14 great grandchildren and 4 great great grandchildren.
Virginia is also survived by her sister, Jean Freas of Steubenville, OH; and 3 brothers, Ray (Kathleen) Mallernee of Bergholz, OH, Dual (Donna) Mallernee of Carrollton, OH, and Earl (Patti) Mallernee of Bloomingdale, OH.
Friends will be received at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 W. Main St., Richmond from 4- 8 PM on Tuesday and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until time of funeral services at 11 AM.
Burial will follow at East Springfield Cemetery.
Virginia requested before her passing that there be no flowers, please. Instead a donation in her memory may be made to the United Methodist Church of the Cross in East Springfield to help a young person who plans to become a full time minister or missionary.
