Walter "Walt" G. Leyland, Jr., 80, of Steubenville, Ohio went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 2, 2024. He was born on July 20, 1944, son of the late Walter Sr. and Loretta Leyland. He was proceeded in death by his brother, Donald.
After attending Central Catholic High School in Wheeling, West Virginia, Walt proudly joined the United States Marine Corps. Walt was retired from the Tin Mill at Weirton Steel and was an active member of the 25-year club. He was a member of Word of Life Fellowship Church, an avid fan of Big Red football, a season-ticket holder for more than 40 years. He also enjoyed conversations with his coffee shop buddies at Pee Dee's and McDonald's. Walter was a loyal and caring friend, a friend to many. He looked out for his family, neighbors and friends. He loved telling stories of the past and always a good joke.
He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years Carole, two daughters Dana (Bruce) Ford of Pickerington, Ohio and Melissa (David) Krinock of Toronto, Ohio, stepdaughter Marcy Bodnar of Hilliard, Ohio, stepsons, Brett (Renee) Grotefend of Austintown, Ohio, and Brian (Stacy) Grotefend of New Cumberland, West Virginia, eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and beloved fur baby, Stella.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 21st at Word of Life Fellowship located at 565 Lovers Lane, Steubenville, Ohio beginning at noon. Please join us in celebrating Walt's life with family, friends and a lunch to follow.
