Wilbert Edward Byers, 89, of Richmond, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Trinity West Medical Center, surrounded by family. He was born on February 10, 1933, in Fly, Ohio, to the late Ralph and Leona (Ritchie) Byers. In addition to his parents, Wilbert is preceded in death by his brother, Mearl Byers.

He was a 1951 graduate of Antioch High School as salutatorian. He worked at Weirton Steel in the Fuel Department for 35 years before retiring in 1991.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Steubenville, where he faithfully served as deacon, trustee, and in many other capacities. The family takes comfort in the fact that Wilbert is now safely in the arms of his beloved Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Wilbert is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Verna (Webber) Byers; his daughters, Charlotte (Larry) Bishop and Janet (Timothy) Mazik; his six grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.

Wilbert had a great love of family and enjoyed traveling together, country music, and could often be found at his work bench sharing his expertise and love for tools.

The family would like to thank Sienna Skilled Nursing Rehabilitation for their care and compassion during the last 3 years.

Memorial contributions can be made to either First Baptist Church Steubenville or Two Ridges Presbyterian Wintersville.

Friends will be received for visitation at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville, OH, on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 from 5-7 P.M. A visitation hour will be held on Wednesday, November 23, 2022, from 10-11 A.M. A service will be held at 11 A.M. with Rev. Bill Lawrence officiating. Burial will follow at Two Ridges Cemetery.
