Throughout his life, Bill loved spending time at Chautauqua Institution on Lake Chautauqua, New York, where he and his brother, Paul, were avid sailors and enjoyed playing golf.
Mr. Alexander is a graduate of Mercersburg Academy in Mercersburg, PA, and The College of Steubenville (Franciscan University). After graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Navy and served stateside during the Korean War. He then went to work at Alexander Lumber, which was founded by his great grandfather, Moses Alexander. Mr. Alexander was a former Steubenville City Councilman, representing the 5th Ward, and an active member of Starkdale Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder and Lector.
During his life Bill was a member of numerous clubs and organizations. These included the Chautauqua Yacht Club, the Order of Symposiarch, the American Legion, the Jefferson County Historical Society, the Freemasons, and the Lions Club, where he was a past District Governor.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Paul. He is survived by his children, William 'Jack' (Susan) of Ft. Myers, Craig (Carolyn) of Pittsburgh, Brett (Cecily) and Sean (Jill), both of Columbus, and their children. He is also survived by his long-time partner, Ruth Koran, her children Renee (John), Michele (Steve), Phillip (Lois), and their children.
Visitation will be at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Road, Wintersville, on Sunday Aug. 12 from 5 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. at Starkdale Presbyterian Church, 4600 Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville, with Reverend Dr. Phillip Makari officiating, followed by a brief burial service at Union Cemetery Chapel in Steubenville. Masonic services at 7:45 PM Sunday with Pilgrim Lodge 691 F &AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions may be made to Starkdale Presbyterian Church, the Richmond Lions Club, or the charity of your choice.
