William Robert Hair, 74, of Bloomingdale , Ohio , passed away March 27, 2012 , at his home.

He was born September 5, 1937 in Ambridge , PA , a son of the late Chester A. and Margaret (Sturm) Hair.

William was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church , East Springfield , OH .

He was a graduate of Trinity High School , Washington , PA, class of 1955. He followed structural iron work for the next six years.

He attended Juniata College in Huntingdon , PA , and Muskingum College in New Concord, OH. He received an associate degree in Criminal Justice from West Liberty State College and was a graduate of the 7 ^th class of the West Virginia State Police Academy , Charleston , WV .

William was a 23 year employee of the city of Weirton Police Department, where he was appointed and served eight years as Chief of Police.

He was a member of Weirton F.O.P Lodge No. 84, was former Vice President of the West Virginia Chief of Police Association, was appointed by Governor Arch Moore as Chairman of the Governor's Committee on Crime, Delinquency and Domestic Violence, and as Chairman of the Drug Enforcement Policy Board of the State of West Virginia .

Other memberships include the Unionport Masonic Lodge F. & A.M. No. 333, Past Watchman of Shepherds Amelia Shrine, Steubenville , Osiris Temple of Wheeling, WV, a lifetime member of Weirton Moose Lodge # 688, and a member of Local No. 3 of the Pittsburgh International Brotherhood of Structural Iron Workers.

William is survived by his wife, Shirley Morrison Hair, whom he married May 20, 1988; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack and Reva Hair of Follansbee, WV, and Chester and Bonnie Hair of Middlebourne, WV; sister-in-law, Joan Davis of Steubenville, OH; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved golden retriever, Gracie.

Friends will be received at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd. , Wintersville on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM where funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 AM with Pastor Josh Conley officiating. Burial will follow at New Alexandria cemetery. Masonic services Friday at 7 PM.
