William Frank Mays, 82, of Hopedale, OH, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 18, 2026.

Born on August 10, 1943, in Charleston, WV, Frank was the son of the late Paul and Charlotte (Schwartz) Mays. He was a proud graduate of Ripley High School, Class of 1961, where he met his late wife, Diann (Lanham) Mays. Following his education and football career at Glenville State University (Class of 1965), he served different communities as a teacher and coach.

A man of deep love for his family and friends, he was known for his strong work ethic. He retired twice, once as a teacher and coach in Cadiz, OH, where he served as Head Football Coach from 1987-1988, and again at the Walmart Distribution Center in Wintersville, OH. He enjoyed time with his family over a meal, driving around, and talking with everyone about anything. His greatest joy, however, came from watching his grandchildren play any and all sports, no matter where the game was. Frank would travel around the country watching his three grandchildren compete and never missed a game.

He is survived by his sister Bonnie (late James) Parsons of Parkersburg, WV; his sons, Bryan (Linda) Mays of Bloomingdale, OH; Vince (Brian) Mays of Eugene, OR; three cherished grandchildren, Haley Mays, Breyanne (Zachary) Janus, Trent Mays; four great grandchildren, Davian Beall, Paris Sanchez, Dawson Janus, Tate Mays

In addition to his parents, Frank was preceded in death by his loving wife, Diann (Lanham) Mays.

In honor of Frank’s wishes, no service will be held.
