William H. Nelson, 89, of Steubenville, OH, passed away in Pataskala, OH on March 30, 2012.

William was born September 9, 1922, a son of the late Archie T. and Amelia Bell (Carnes) Nelson.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant daughter; brother, Archie Nelson; and cousins, Harry and Mary Katherine Nelson.

William was retired from Conrail where he was first a fireman on steam fired locomotives and later an engineer.

William served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He served with Company K, 39 ^th Infantry, 9 ^th Infantry Division and was involved in the invasion of North Africa and Sicily where he was awarded a Bronze Star and three Purple Hearts.

William was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Steubenville Masonic Lodge 45 F & A M for 40 plus years, 32 ^nd Degree of the Valley of Steubenville Scottish Rite VSA, Steubenville Shrine Club, MSA, Aladdin Shrine, VFW, Jefferson County Bee Keepers, the Coin Club, and the Ninth Infantry Division Association.

William is survived by his wife, Violet (Swearingen) Nelson; daughter, Sharon (Albert) DuBois of Pataskala, OH; grandson, William (Stephanie) DuBois  and great-grandchildren, Lydia and Mason DuBois of Westerville, OH; sister-in-law, Zienna Mae Nelson of East Springfield, OH; and nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 685 Canton Rd., Wintersville where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 AM with Reverend Paul Danielson.

Burial will follow at Union Cemetery, Steubenville.

Masonic Services will be held Monday at 7 PM.
