William "WW" Smith Obituary

William Walter "Bill" Smith, 85, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away February 18, 2025 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Born December 25, 1939 in Steubenville, Bill was the son of the late Earl B. Smith and Ruthora (Davis) Smith Kirkpatrick. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son Doug Smith.

Bill was a graduate of Jefferson Union High School class of 1957. Following graduation, he was accepted into the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 246 out of Steubenville and was an active member until his retirement in 1994. "W.W.," as he was called on the job, worked at different sites during his career, but throughout a majority of his career, he was the General Foreman at the Sammis Plant in Stratton, Ohio. W.W. was respected and revered by many of his brothers in the Local.

Bill was a proud father. He displayed a respect to his elders, a loyalty to family, a remarkable work ethic, and so much more that his children have embraced and passed onto their children. Bill and the love of his life, Carole, enjoyed traveling and sightseeing. They often made vacations a time of learning as they took their children to many historical cities and Presidents' homes. Their yearly trips to Myrtle Beach became the much loved family vacation. Later in life they enjoyed cruises and their trips to Branson, Mo.

Grandee, as he was affectionately called by his grandchildren and their many friends, loved being a grandfather. After retiring, he and his wife spent their weekdays babysitting many of their grandchildren. When his grandchildren were older and involved in extracurricular events at their schools, he often attended their many events to cheer them on. He, also, enjoyed being "Uncle Bill" to his many nieces and nephews.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carole (Novington) Smith, whom he married August 28, 1960; his son William J. (Lindy) Smith; his daughters Brenda (James) Anderson and Judith (Rob) Davis; his brother, Glenn (Sandra) Smith; his grandchildren Jenna (Taylor) FitzGerald, Billy (Lacie) Smith, Brianna Zarych, Ted (Lauren) Anderson, Elizabeth (Cole Roscoe) Anderson, Anthony (Brooke) Davis, Jonathan Davis, and Bethany (Bradly Newburn) Davis; and great-grandchildren, Radley, Ripley, and Riot FitzGerald, and Blair Davis.

The family would like to thank those from Valley Hospice who have cared for Bill. They appreciate their dedication. A special thanks goes to Asyan, an aide, who cared for him throughout most of his time under hospice care.
