Wilmer Calvin Lopus, of Richmond, Ohio, passed away July 24, 2016, at the age of 88. He was born August 27, 1927, in Erie, PA, to Lt. Col. Lester and Calla Lopus. Though Wilmer has lived in Eastern Ohio since 1967, he grew up in Corry, Pennsylvania.

Wilmer was drafted into the United States Army, November 21, 1945, where he served in the Pacific Region. He received an honorable discharge, January 21, 1947. Soon after his discharge, he attended Edinboro University, Edinboro, Pennsylvania, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Wilmer also received a Master's Degree from Slippery Rock, PA.

Wilmer worked his entire life in Education in Pennsylvania and Ohio. He worked for Edison Local School District for 35 years largely as the Federal and Special Needs Coordinator. He set up the first Adult Basic Education program and enhanced the Special Needs Programs for the school district.

He served as a Deacon and Elder in the Church of God, Wheeling, West Virginia.

Wilmer is survived by his wife Martha (Hurlburt) Lopus, daughter Sharon Lopus, Fairfax, Virginia, daughter Sandra Lopus-Williams, of Chantilly, Virginia; two grandchildren James Robert Pepper, Jnr., and Lucca Williams. Wilmer's daughter, Cynthia Lopus Pepper, Shreveport, LA, lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer in May 2004, and he and Martha were both by her side when she passed.

Wilmer was the oldest brother of 4 sisters, Marilyn Barnett, Besty Wester, Faith Sanders and Leslie Theuret.

Wilmer was devoted to his passions. They were his family, his God, his profession, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In turn, they were all devoted to him.

Friends may call at Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 110 Main Street, Richmond, OH, on Thursday, July 28, 2016 from 2 PM until time of funeral services at 4 PM with Pastor Todd Crouch officiating.

He will be buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Corry, Pennsylvania.

Monetary contributions may be made to the Richmond Methodist Church, in Wilmer's name.
