Winifred “Sis” Stine, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026, at the age of 83.
Sis was born on January 12, 1942. She graduated from Jefferson Union High School in 1960 and shortly after married the love of her life, Howard Stine, on June 16, 1960. Together they built a beautiful life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
Sis was preceded in death by her parents, Peggy Goddard and Walter Dye; her brothers, William Dye (wife Joyce) and Fred Dye; and her sisters, Joanna Martin (husband Bill) and Elaine Wright.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Howard Stine; her children Christine Burns (David), Wesley Stine (Diann), and Tammy Becknell (Scott); her beloved grandchildren Jennifer Winward (Jason), Jessica Palese (Matt), Chelsye Dailey (Sean), and Deron Castle Jr. (Amanda); and her ten treasured great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Susan Haines and Peggy Zende (Mike).
Sis was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Methodist Church, where she served as a junior church leader and pianoist, sharing her faith and musical talents with generations. She was also a dedicated 4-H advisor for the Yellowcreek Lads and Lassies 4-H Club and an active bowler in a league at Garson Lanes in Amsterdam.
A hardworking and compassionate woman, Sis owned and operated a ceramics shop in Amsterdam, later moving the business to her home. She worked as a clerk at the state liquor store, served as an EMT at the Sammis Power Plant in Toronto, and later pursued her passion for caregiving by completing a nursing program at Jefferson County Technical College. She went on to work as an LPN at Carroll Health Care Center.
Sis found joy in fishing in the Outer Banks, attending family reunions, and spending time with those she loved most. Her greatest happiness came from being surrounded by her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were truly the light of her life.
Sis will be remembered for her warm heart, unwavering faith, gentle spirit, and the deep love she poured into her family. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and devotion that will live on through all who were blessed to know her.
