Raymond A. Cingolani Sr., 82, of Bergholz, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on August 28, 2022. He was born on June 9, 1940 in Hopedale, Ohio to the late Dominic and Mary (Darios) Cingolani. In addition to his parents, Raymond is preceded in death by his brothers, Ralph (Helen), Louis (Tomasina), Victor, and William “Billy” Cingolani; his sisters, Louise (Ben) Ruhlin and Marine (George) Pelegreen.
He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Amsterdam, Ohio. He was also a member of the Knight’s of Columbus through St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Hopedale, Ohio. Raymond went to Hopedale High School where he was on a 6 man football team playing defensive tackle/running back from 1954-1958. The members of the team were inducted into the Harrison County Sports Hall of Fame. The team had 42 consecutive wins, currently ranked #7 in the state of Ohio, and won 4 Eastern Ohio League Championships. In high school, he was also a member of the basketball, baseball, and track teams.
He coached baseball and mentored many young men. Ray’s biggest love in life was spending time with his family and friends. Besides his children, he was like a father to many of his nieces, nephews and his childrens’ friends. He was an avid gardener and found joy in growing produce and sharing it with everyone. Ray was a loyal and faithful friend to many.
Raymond is survived by his wife of 58 years, Betty Lou (Teichman) Cingolani; his son, Raymond A. Cingolani Jr.; his daughters, Ronda Cingolani and Tina (Blaine) Cingolani Vinson; his sister, Margaret (Keith) Kandel; his sister-in-law, Lena Bell; his grandchildren, Emily (Allison “Fish”) Cingolani White, Kendall Vinson, and Blaine Vinson II; his great grandchild, Landon Long; and many close nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received for visitation hours at the Everhart-Bove Funeral Home, 285 Second Street, Bergholz, Ohio, on Friday, September 2, 2022 from 5-8 P.M. A short viewing will be held from 10-11 A.M. before the service on Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 6001-6067 Hill Rd SE, Amsterdam, Ohio at 11 A.M. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Weirton, West Virginia. A Celebration of Life luncheon welcoming all friends and family will be held following the burial at The Amsterdam VFW, 412 Liberty St., Amsterdam, Ohio, 43903.
