Shirley Albert Obituary

Shirley A. (Byers) Albert passed away on March 31, 2023. She was born in Hopedale Ohio, on October 12, 1934. A daughter of the late Donald Edward Byers and Florence Matilda (Gilbert) Byers. In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Henri O. Albert. 

She is survived by her son, James W. (Cheryl) Kopras of New Philadelphia, OH; her daughter, Patricia (Glenn) Barlow; her step-sons, Brian A. (Patricia) Albert of Steubenville, OH, Brad A. (Amy) Albert of Simpsonville, SC, and Bruce A. Albert of Kentucky; her brothers, Gilbert Byers of N. Ridgeville, OH, and Keith (Joy) Byers of Osprey, FL; she will also be missed by her four grandchildren, two step-granddaughters, two great grandchildren, and one step-great granddaughter. 

Shirley graduated from Hopedale High School in 1952 and Jefferson Tech. Graduating with the degree of LPN and worked many years at Ohio Valley Hospital. 

Shirley was a member of Two Ridge Presbyterian Church serving as an elder before transferring her membership to First Westminster Presbyterian Church in later years. She was quite active at First Westminster as a fundraiser where she became known as “the peanut brittle lady.” She was a previous member of the Steubenville Jr. Women’s Club, a 4H advisor, and president of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Steubenville Scottish Rite and helped raise funds for the 2004 opening of the 32 degree Masonic learning center in the Steubenville Masonic Temple. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Labelle Chapter #414 for many years and served as an officer in that organization. 

A committal service will be held at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, 801 Canton Rd, Wintersville, Ohio, 43953, on Saturday, April 29 2023, at 11 A.M.
