Stephen F. Spiewak, 83, of Weirton was called home on September 17, 2021, at Weirton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. He was born September 5, 1938, a son of the late Stephen and Anastasia (Sydlowski) Spiewak. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sisters, his father and mother-in-law, Edward and Dorothy Kochman; and brother Harry Kochman.
He was retired from Weirton Steel Quality Control. He was a former Patrolman for the City of Steubenville and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. Stephen was a member St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, Weirton where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion. Stephen was a 4th Degree member of the Weirton K of C Council #3734, and a member of Richmond American Legion Post 740.
Stephen loved Christmas. For over thirty years he could be found playing Santa at various community functions. For several years he played Santa at the mall. He could also be heard as Santa on international radio. He continued his role as Santa after he got ill by calling local children.
Stephen enjoyed vacationing at the Outer Banks and Marco Island. He was an avid outdoorsman, teaching the same to his grandchildren. Life was precious to Stephen, and his grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed watching their sporting events and could always be heard yelling “Be hungry”.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly (Kochman) Spiewak whom he married February 1, 1964; two daughters, Regina (Ed) Hashbarger and Jacqueline (Tom) Hunt; grandchildren, Tyler Locke, Edward (Alyssa) Hashbarger, Joshua (Haley) Hashbarger, Sarah Dawson, Tommy Hunt, Chris Hunt; Six great grandchildren; siblings, Edward (Kitty) Kochman, Patricia Bittrick, Margaret Kochman, Richard Kochman; several nieces and nephews; special longtime friends, Lee DiBias, Allan Burnworth, Jimmy Kelly, Sam Cadile, Dan Davis.
Even through his sufferings, he brought joy to many people. The family wishes to thank Weirton Medical Center, 5th floor staff and his home health care team, Lindy, Will, and Jared.
