Wanda Clevenger Obituary

Wanda Muriel Clevenger, 81, of Wintersville, Matriarch of the family and Granny to all who entered her home, passed away Wednesday, December 26 at Weirton Medical Center surrounded by those who she’s dedicated her life to and enriched eternally.

She was an integral part of her grandchildren’s lives, devoting herself tirelessly. Wanda was born September 23, 1937 daughter of the late Dovie Monree (Golden) Crislip and David Eugene Crislip.

She was preceded in death by the love of her life of 50 years, Robert L. Clevenger, daughter Candace Hitt, son Mark Hitt, and brother Gene Crislip.

Wanda was a jack of many trades and master of them all. She loved to cook, bake, and try new recipes and used her family as guinea pigs (whether they were willing or not). Wanda also loved to crochet, sew and sing. Her favorite quote was "if you see someone without a smile, give them yours", providing many happy smiles to costumers at Lewis Country Mart where she was the store manager. Throwing her hat in the ring succeeding at many different vocations, she prepared taxes for H&R Block, delivered mail for USPS, worked in real estate, and sold Christmas trees. She’s done it all from pumping gas to waitressing. Her favorite and most rewarding occupation was working as the secretary for the beloved Reverend Jeff Proya at Bell Chapel UMC where she was a member and made everyone feel welcome.
