Warner Sanders Obituary

Warner W. Sanders, 88 of Richmond, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 13, 2021 at his home.

He was born October 12, 1932 in Island Creek Township, a son of the late Cecil and Wilda George Sanders. Warner was a 1950 graduate of Jefferson Union High School. He was honorably discharged from the U. S. Coast Guard in 1954 and retired from Weirton Steel in 1991 after 41 years.

Warner was a member of the Richmond United Methodist Church, the Jefferson Ruritans, Jefferson County Farm Bureau, the American Hereford Association, and the Toronto Masonic Lodge #583. He served several terms on the Edison Local School District Board of Education. Warner was a lifetime farmer.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Melanie Sanders Coachman in 1990, his son-in-law Michael Giles in 2002; and his daughter Cari Sanders Bernhart in 2021.

Warner is survived by his wife, Ruth Geibel Sanders, his sister, Betty (Ray) Sanders Clark of Toronto, OH, his children, Lisa Sanders Giles of Gahanna, OH, Clint (Barb) Sanders of Toronto, OH, Kathleen (Tim) Sanders McKindles of Blacklick, OH and Jim (Traci) Sanders of Toronto, OH. He had 12 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, 1 niece and 1 nephew; 7 stepchildren, Joel Geibel, Susan Shuler, Sheila Geibel, Sharon Geibel, Brian Geibel, Bruce Geibel, and Sara Olewiler, 14 step grandchildren and 10 step great-grandchildren.

A private service for family only, officiated by Rev. Byron Bufkin will be held at the Richmond Methodist Church. Visitation for friends will be held on Tuesday, March 16, 2021 from 1-3 PM at the Richmond United Methodist Church, 112 Sugar St., Richmond, Ohio. All attendees will be required to wear a mask or face covering. In addition, if you are unable to attend or not feeling well, please consider sending a card or leave an online condolence.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Warner to the Richmond United Methodist Church or to Charity Hospice.
