Obituary

William James Smith (Bud), 81, of Coolville, OH passed away December 30, 2021. He was born February 19, 1940 in Newell, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Claude Reed and Josephine (Ashbaugh) Phillips. Bud served in the U.S. Air Force before being involved in a life changing car accident that left him disabled when he was 26 years old. He lived with his mother and stepfather (the late Josephine and Harold Phillips) until the time of their passing. He then lived with his brother, Michael C. Smith until he passed on as well. His nephew, William (Bill) Smith, took over his care. Bud lived at Arcadia Nursing home in Coolville, OH.

Bud was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and had a quick wit. He was loved by his family and many caregivers for his kind spirit.

He is survived by his nephew, William “Bill” (Julie) Smith; and nieces Beverly Freeman and Cathy Coleman Flowers.

Friends will be received at Richmond Union Cemetery for a graveside service on Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Bill Westling officiating.
