Our History
Everhart-Bove Funeral Service, with chapels in Wintersville and Bergholz, Ohio, celebrates it's 49th anniversary in the year 2025. Wayne Everhart, who moved to the Valley in 1975 and Daniel Bove, Jr., a native of Mingo Jct. and a resident of Wintersville, OH, own and operate the practice.
In 1976, Wayne and Pennie (Palmer) Everhart opened the Bergholz location in what was once Pennie's grandparents variety store for nearly 50 years. To this day the funeral home continues to serve the village of Bergholz and surrounding areas.
The former Richmond location opened in 1982 in a historic building once owned by Steubenville native Edwin Stanton, a congressman, supreme court judge and most notably, President Lincoln's secretary of war.
The firm also kept pace with innovations in funeral services, funeral merchandise, and the very latest in service delivery systems. A succession plan was instituted in 2005 when Daniel Bove, Jr. purchased an interest in the practice and became co-owner/operator along with Everhart.
In May of 2009 a new chapel was opened at 685 Canton Road, Wintersville to meet the growing needs of the funeral homes. The beautiful, spacious, modern facility quickly became the fastest growing funeral home in the area. In January 2011 Daniel Bove, Jr. became sole owner and operator of the funeral homes. Wayne Everhart still works at the funeral homes as a director, embalmer and business advisor.
A blend of tradition and innovation serves every need the funeral consumer requires. Serving the living while caring for the deceased is the hallmark of service at Everhart-Bove. The Mission Statement (found on this site) is a guide to superior customer service at modest charges.
In 2013 Everhart-Bove Funeral Homes launched EBCare: Affordable Cremation Options. This innovative approach to cremation options expands the funeral home market area up and down the Ohio Valley. No matter where the clients family lives they can take advantage of EBCare's easy to understand cremation option program.
